MoreySmith is designing the common parts - atrium, reception and café areas, lifts and lobbies - for these ambitious new offices in the Snowhill business district of Birmingham, dubbed 'Birmingham's most dynamic new mixed-use city centre development'. The two buildings, totalling nearly 56,000 sq m of office space, each have their own character but must show distinct design relationships. Ideas for the main reception / atrium area here include a café area in one arm of the cruciform space, reclaimed timber panelling and graphic wall panels.
Looking back to the reception desk at upper ground floor level. The viewpoint of the previous sketch is behind this desk, underneath its reclaimed timber arch and framed balcony above.
Another, more typographic, idea for the graphic wall panel leading away from the reception area in the first image.
The lower ground floor entrance leads up a grand curving staircase to the upper ground reception area. We are proposing a hanging art work for this tall space, perhaps a mobile light sculpture like the one shown here.
